What Is Clipping in Marketing? Paid Short Video Clips

Clipping in marketing is paid distribution of short videos. A client hands over a long video, people cut it into vertical clips, post them on their own TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts accounts, and get paid for every 1,000 verified views.

The client pays for reach. The clipper puts in time, editing and an account. The platform holds the budget, counts views and handles payouts.

What is the definition of clipping?

Search for the word and you get several unrelated things. This article is only about the last one.

How a clipping campaign works

  1. The client sets a budget, a rate per 1,000 views, the platforms and the rules in a brief.
  2. The budget goes in first. On Whop a campaign stays hidden from clippers until it is funded, and Vyro also takes the money up front. That removes the clipper's biggest risk: a client who never pays.
  3. The clipper picks a campaign, cuts the source and makes their own edit.
  4. They post the clip on their own account and submit the link.
  5. The client approves or rejects the clip.
  6. A tracker counts views. On Content Rewards the default window is 30 days from submission.
  7. Views are checked for fraud, the money is credited to the clipper, and they withdraw it.

Other formats exist: prize pools, flat pay per post, monthly retainers. But on the public Content Rewards board on November 4, 2026, 77 of 79 campaigns paid per 1,000 views.

How much does clipping pay per 1,000 views?

The median on that board was $1.00, with a range of $0.30 to $6. The typical rate on Kadr is $0.50 to $1.00. In Russian-language programs the spread is wider: a mass banner placed over any video pays $0.03 to $0.10. The full breakdown is in our guide to rates per 1,000 views.

Who works in this market?

PlayerWhat it isWhat it claims
WhopA storefront and payments platform where Content Rewards started$200 million raised at a $5.1 billion valuation, October 2026. That money is about far more than clipping
Content RewardsA campaign marketplace that started on Whop in late 2024$14 million+ paid out, 400,000+ creators, 1,900+ brands and agencies
VyroA marketplace from MrBeast's company125,000 accounts, $1,000 minimum budget

These are the companies' own numbers. There is no reliable estimate of market size. The figures in the tens of billions that circulate on blogs come with no source.

Demand started where advertising is banned or expensive: streamers, crypto, info products, gambling. By late 2026 the public boards show ordinary brands too: Hulu and Chipotle on Vyro, Call of Duty and Samsung on Content Rewards.

How is clipping different from ads and influencers?

In an ad account you buy impressions and choose the audience. With an influencer you buy a placement and pay before it runs. With clipping you pay for views that already happened, but you do not choose who watched.

That is the trade-off: no targeting, no attribution, and no way to set the viewers' country or age. Clipping is top of funnel. Clients should read our page on clipping for brands.

How much do clippers make?

Most clips earn little. Divide the $14 million Content Rewards reports by its 400,000 creators and you get about $35 per person over the platform's whole history. In a viral.app sample of 1.4 million TikTok videos, those under 10,000 views made up 87% of the videos and just 2% of all views.

The first steps and the numbers are in how to make money clipping.

What changed in 2026?

Instagram and YouTube announced measures against reposts, and X, according to press reports, began demonetizing accounts that post other people's work. An unedited copy earns less and less, so a clipper needs a real edit. Details are in why reposts lose reach.

Frequently asked questions

What is clipping and how do people make money from it?

You cut a strong moment out of a long video, edit it into a short vertical clip, post it on your account, and the client pays you per 1,000 verified views.

What is clipping marketing?

A way for brands and creators to pay many independent accounts to spread their content as short clips. In PR the same word can mean collecting media mentions. On Kadr it always means the first.

Do clippers need a big following?

Not always. TikTok says follower count is not a direct factor in its recommendations.

Is clipping YouTube videos illegal?

It depends on the rights to the source. In a paid campaign the client confirms it holds the rights and allows clipping. Using someone else's video or music without permission is risky, because the rights holder can file a complaint.

The path from your first account to your first payout is in the guide for clippers.
